Live Life Comfortably

One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I’ll never know. ~ Groucho Marx

Being Comfortable – What Does That Mean To You?

As I sit here sipping coffee #4 (plus additive) I look around to see:

  1. a happy toddler
  2. a clean house (momentarily – see #1)
  3. my terrible reflection

I love it because I have learned to allow myself the comfort to just be. To look around and change the things in my life so I can be the person I want and love in myself.

My Terrible Reflection

Now let me clarify. My reflection is that of a frumpy and comfy mom. It is nearly 3:30, the teenager has friends coming over in half an hour and I am in pajama pants, a baggy sweatshirt, no makeup, unbrushed hair… and if I am to be honest my teeth could use a scrub.

There is rarely a day when I stay in and get to just be. Today is the day. If a visitor pops by this is what they get and they better be as okay with it as I am. My happy toddler is fed. My to-do list is a mile long. My concerns have been tossed aside.

What can you do to relax a little?

Doesn’t it seem like there is always something else to do or somewhere to be? How do you unwind in a healthy way?

I find that being comfortable with the choices I make plays a big factor in my overall happiness. I accept and choose to stay in my pajamas today because I believe kids shouldn’t get to have all the fun! I also feel like having wind-down time is healthy for our emotional needs.

Think About it?

When was the last time… that you felt completely relaxed and happy just being?

What did you truly enjoy… about that moment in time?

Where were you… and what was it about your surroundings that added to the experience?

Who was around supporting you… to be the best you possible?

How… can you recreate that experience on a regular basis?

You have slowed down and looked at what has worked for you to get some insight on how to find that comfort again. Celebrate any other learning that you have found in the process. This process will become even more powerful if you choose to do create the comfort on a regular basis.

If you do, you will find that you:

  • Become more confident
  • Spread happiness
  • Honour yourself
  • Find your importance

What Do You Do For Yourself?

Love yourself. It is important to stay positive because beauty comes from the inside out. ~ Jenn Proske

Happy Valentine’s Day!

A day singles loathe and couples gush.

What do you do to show love for yourself?

There is a tendency for singles to hate Valentine’s Day and couples to have a love/hate relationship with it depending on their own relationship. When we think of Valentine’s Day we think of red hearts, red roses, red wine, candles.

We imagine couples dancing and romancing while the lonely hearts are sitting at the bar drinking away their sorrows. Why is this when we are in a world constantly being told to love ourselves first. Once we like who we are we can begin to be authentic and share our love for others in a better way. Our happiness will just spill out of us.

Make Valentine’s Day Your Day

Honour yourself. Be kind. Be authentic. Do something special to recognize the wonderful person that you are.

We have all been through struggles. We’ve lost people, been sick, struggled with work. We have experienced sadness and consequences but we have made it through. Through the lowest of the lows we have picked ourselves up, dusted off, and moved on with our lives.

Sometimes we get through it on our own and sometimes we need someone to lean on; a parent, friend, teacher…

Hiring a coach can help you become more confident and love yourself more than you already do by creating impact in your life and I am here for you if you choose to do that.

For Now – Join me in a little exercise:

Find a Quiet Space

Find yourself a quiet space. A space where you can sit in peace. Perhaps when the kids are napping, while relaxing in the tub, or even on a work break. Do your best to set aside 20-30 minutes to really be alone with no distractions.

Clear Your Head

Once you have found that space take a few deep breaths. Close your eyes if it feels comfortable to you. Breathe again. Think about placing all thoughts and worries on a shelf. They will be there for you once this time is over. Right now think only of the stillness around you. Be calm and relaxed.

Think of a Happy Memory

Focus on a time that you were truly happy; it could have been earlier today or when you were 5 years old. A time when life seemed easy and things were just going your way. When you were happy and confident in who you were and the life you built around you.

Go Deeper

Once you have that scenario in mind, consider why that memory is one of your happiest. Pick out one or two things about your personality or beliefs that made that moment even more significant. What were those things?

Begin to consider if you use these qualities or beliefs to empower your daily life now. What made them significant then? What is important to you now? How can you use/bring these reflections into your daily life?

Show Love For Yourself

You have slowed down and looked within. Celebrate any learning that you have found in the process. This process will become even more powerful if you choose to do it on a regular basis.

If you do, you will find that you:

  • Become more confident
  • Spread happiness
  • Honour yourself
  • Find your importance

Whether coupled up or not on Valentine’s Day it is important to LOVE YOURSELF. You will be amazed by the personal growth you will experience when you are happy with who you are and invested in who you will become.

Celebrate You by Doing Something Meaningful to Your Emotional/Physical/Spiritual Health. Possible ideas: a bubble bath, an evening out, family storytime, etc.

What will you do to Celebrate You?

Change the World!

You have goals. You have dreams. You have the ability to change the world!

Sounds easy right? Yet, it can be quite overwhelming.

How can you change the world?

There are plenty of ways we can help the world. You can recycle and find ways to help the environment. You can donate to a charitable organization. I’m sure there are hundreds of ways you can change the world, some of which you may be personally vested in, but are they the best way for you?

What if I said you could make a difference just by being you? Before we determine how you can change the world, there are a few things to consider:

Interests are a great way for you to de-stress at the end of a long day, take your mind off of something, or just to have fun! What do you enjoy do in your spare time? What is it that you could do on a regular basis and never tire of? What would you like to try that you have never done before? Take a moment and write these down.

Our values speak to who we really are, what we truly believe in. Your deep values will tie in with your morals, ethics, beliefs but are even stronger; something you are never willing to compromise. Write down what you truly value in your life.

Being inspired helps each of us to stay in a positive mental state and gets us in our creative space.  Write down what inspires you. If you do not know what inspires you today, I invite you to reflect on a time that you were truly inspired. What about that time resonates with you? What was happening around you? Where were you? What were you doing? When you have finished reflecting, write down the details of what you just experienced and what inspires you.

Changing the World

Let’s look at what you have created. You have reviewed your interests, your values, and your inspiration. When you reflect on your interests, values, and inspiration; do you find you connect with these strongly?

The stronger the connection you have with what you are doing, the more motivation is created.

Interests + Values + Inspiration = MOTIVATION

Great motivation comes from within. Change the world with it! Use your interests in an inspired and creative way that will generate great personal value for you. You will be amazed by the personal growth and commitment you have to what you do. Change the world one day at a time, one act at a time.

Example: You are a beginner painter (who loves it but you don’t feel you are an expert), you value communication, and are inspired by your grade 3 teacher because he was patient and kind. You would like to use your skills in a positive way but aren’t sure how. Then you remember there is an elementary school down the street that teaches children who have trouble communicating with words. Would this be an opportunity to use your interests, values, and inspiration in a positive way in your community?

How Will You Change The World?
